Responsible Gambling
Sports betting is not a way to make money. It carries real risks: addiction, debt, social isolation. This page outlines our commitments, the warning signs to watch for, and the support services available 24/7.
Our position at ProbWin
ProbWin is a sports analytics platform powered by artificial intelligence. We publish probabilistic predictions for informational purposes. We are not a betting operator: we do not accept bets and we do not hold player accounts. Our editorial content — analyses, pick selections, predictions — is never influenced by bookmakers. Our main revenue comes from subscriptions to detailed analyses. On certain markets where access to card payment is limited (French-speaking Africa), we additionally provide links to a partner operator, transparently labelled as such, and which are never displayed to users located in France or in countries subject to the ANJ.
That does not relieve us of editorial responsibility: if you use our analyses to bet with a licensed operator, we encourage you to do so in moderation, remembering that no model — including ours — guarantees winnings. Over the long term, the majority of bettors lose money.
Recognising the warning signs
Problem gambling develops gradually. Several signals should alert you — for yourself or someone close:
- Escalating stakes to achieve the same level of excitement or to chase previous losses.
- Preoccupation: you think about betting while working, eating, falling asleep.
- Lying to family or friends about the time or money you spend on gambling.
- Chasing losses: trying to win back lost money through additional bets.
- Borrowing or selling possessions to keep gambling.
- Real-life consequences: lateness or absence at work, family conflict, social isolation, neglect of previous hobbies.
- Failed attempts to cut back or stop on your own.
- Persistent negative feelings: guilt, anxiety, irritability linked to gambling.
If several of these apply to you, it is time to ask for help. Gambling addiction is treatable — the sooner it is addressed, the faster recovery becomes.
Quick self-assessment (PGSI — short form)
In the past 12 months, have you:
- Bet more than you could really afford to lose?
- Needed to gamble with larger amounts to get the same feeling of excitement?
- Gone back another day to try to win back the money you lost?
- Borrowed money or sold anything to get money to gamble?
- Felt you might have a problem with gambling?
- Felt guilty about the way you gamble or what happens when you gamble?
- Had people criticise your betting or tell you that you have a gambling problem?
- Had your gambling cause financial problems for you or your household?
- Felt that gambling has caused you any health problems, including stress or anxiety?
If you answered "yes" to 3 or more, your relationship with gambling likely presents a risk. We strongly recommend reaching out to one of the support services listed below — all consultations are free, anonymous and confidential.
Setting limits before you bet
If you decide to bet, these rules help keep gambling as a leisure activity:
- Monthly budget set in advance: an amount you can lose entirely without impacting your daily life (rent, groceries, bills). Treat it as the price of a hobby, not an investment.
- Time-boxed sessions: decide upfront how long you spend betting. Use the time alerts offered by licensed operators.
- Never bet while drinking alcohol, under the influence, in a strong emotional state (anger, sadness, euphoria), or to "take your mind off things".
- No loss-chasing: if you've lost your budget, stop. Doubling stakes to "recover" is the main mechanism of the debt spiral.
- No borrowing, no dedicated credit card, no salary advance to gamble.
- Keep a journal of your net gains and losses over 3 months. Most bettors overestimate wins and underestimate losses.
Self-exclusion and operator tools
Licensed operators must offer, free of charge and at any time:
- Stake limits (per day, week, month) reducible with immediate effect.
- Deposit limits on the player account.
- Session time limits with alerts.
- Temporary self-exclusion (24 hours to several months).
- Permanent self-exclusion from all licensed operators.
UK players: GAMSTOP (gamstop.co.uk) lets you self-exclude from all UK-licensed gambling websites for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years.
French players: the ANJ manages a national self-exclusion register valid for a minimum of 3 years across all licensed operators.

For families and friends of a problem gambler
Living alongside someone with a gambling addiction is exhausting. Some guidance:
- Do not pay their gambling debts. It delays awareness and fuels the cycle.
- Protect shared finances: separate bank accounts, block overdraft authorisations, monitor cards.
- Speak without judgement, but name the facts. Shame is a major barrier to seeking help.
- Ask for help yourself: the services listed above also support relatives. You do not have to carry this alone.
Minors: zero tolerance
Gambling is strictly prohibited for minors (under 18 in most jurisdictions, 21 in some US states). ProbWin does not allow registration by anyone under 18. If you are a parent and suspect a minor child has access to betting sites, parental control tools can block access to gambling operators. Most operating systems and browsers now offer free content filters.
ProbWin editorial commitments
- Our analyses always express a probability, never a certainty. Phrases like "guaranteed pick", "100% sure", "infallible martingale" are banned from our editorial content.
- We do not display advertising from unlicensed betting operators.
- We do not run revenue-share affiliate programs paid by bookmakers for new player sign-ups.
- Our warning messages ("Gambling carries risks", "18+") appear in the footer of every page.
- We never contact our users to encourage them to "make back losses".
