Sports Betting FAQ

Everything you need to know about value betting, AI predictions, and how ProbWin works.

The Basics
How do sports betting odds work?

Odds represent the multiplier applied to your stake when you win. The higher the odds, the more improbable the bookmaker considers the event.

Example: Odds of 2.00 means you double your stake if you win. Bet $100, get back $200 (including $100 profit).

All odds formats (decimal, American, fractional) represent the same underlying probability — they're just displayed differently.

What do -110 or +150 odds mean?

These are American odds, common in the US.

Negative odds (-110): How much you must bet to win $100. -110 means bet $110 to win $100.

Positive odds (+150): How much you win if you bet $100. +150 means win $150 on a $100 stake.

To convert: -110 in decimal = 1.91 | +150 in decimal = 2.50

What is a spread (handicap)?

The spread equalizes the contest between two teams of different quality by adding a virtual handicap.

Example: Chiefs -7 vs Raiders +7. The Chiefs must win by more than 7 points for the "Chiefs -7" bet to win. Betting Raiders +7 wins if the Raiders win OR lose by fewer than 7 points.

What is an over/under (total)?

A total is a bet on the combined number of points/goals scored by both teams.

Example: Lakers vs Celtics, Total 224.5. Bet "Over" if you think the combined score exceeds 224 points. Bet "Under" if you think it falls short.

What is the "juice" or vig?

The juice (or vig) is the commission taken by the bookmaker on each bet. It's what guarantees their long-term profit.

Concrete example: On a perfect coin flip (50/50), fair odds would be 2.00 on both sides. But bookmakers typically offer 1.91/1.91. This difference is the juice — roughly a 5% margin. To be profitable, you need to be right often enough to overcome it.

Value Betting
What is a value bet?

A value bet is a wager where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the event justifies.

Example: You estimate a team has a 50% chance of winning. A fair price is 2.00. If the bookmaker offers 2.20, you have value — the bet is mathematically favorable long-term.

This is the only concept that truly matters for profitable betting. You can lose individual value bets, but if you consistently bet with positive expected value, you'll profit over time.

How do I calculate if a bet has value?

The formula is simple:

Value = (Estimated probability × Odds) − 1

If the result is positive, you have value.

Example: Your estimate is 55% probability of winning. Offered odds: 1.95.
Value = (0.55 × 1.95) − 1 = 0.0725 = +7.25% value

The challenge is accurately estimating probabilities. That's where data analysis and models come in.

Should I always bet on favorites or underdogs?

Neither systematically. What matters is value, not whether a team is favored or not.

A favorite at odds 1.30 can be a bad bet if its true probability is 70% (fair odds: 1.43). An underdog at 4.00 can be excellent if its true probability is 30% (fair odds: 3.33). Focus on the math, not on popularity.

Is it really possible to beat the bookmakers?

Yes, but it's difficult and requires:

• A mathematical approach (no gut feelings)
Specialization (impossible to be expert in everything)
Discipline (stick to your strategy through losing streaks)
Sample size (your edge shows up over hundreds of bets)

Professional bettors exist, but they're a tiny minority who treat betting as an investment, not entertainment.

Bankroll Management
How much should I bet per game?

The standard recommendation is 1 to 3% of your total bankroll per bet.

Profile% per betOn a $1,000 bankroll
Conservative1%$10
Moderate2%$20
Aggressive3%$30

Never exceed 5%, even on a "sure thing". Sure things don't exist.

What is the Kelly Criterion?

The Kelly Criterion is a mathematical formula to determine the optimal bet size based on your edge and the available odds.

Formula: Kelly % = (bp − q) / b
Where: b = decimal odds − 1, p = win probability, q = loss probability (1−p)

Caution: Full Kelly is very aggressive. Most bettors use "fractional Kelly" (1/4 or 1/2 Kelly) to reduce volatility.

How do I handle a losing streak?

1. Don't change your strategy — if your method is sound, variance will eventually balance out.
2. Don't chase losses — increasing stakes after losses is the fastest path to ruin.
3. Analyze coldly — is the losing streak bad luck or errors in analysis?
4. Take a break if needed — better to stop for a few days than make emotional decisions.

Do betting systems like Martingale work?

No. Progression systems (martingale, fibonacci, etc.) don't create value. They only shift the distribution of wins and losses.

With a martingale, you win small amounts frequently, but when you lose, you lose big. The mathematical expectation stays negative if you have no underlying edge to begin with.

About ProbWin
How does the 7-day free trial work?

Create your account and activate the Premium trial. You get full access to all features for 7 days. No credit card required. If you do nothing, you automatically revert to the Freemium plan with access to the daily free pick.

How does ProbWin find its picks?

We use machine learning models trained on hundreds of millions of data points. For each game, we:

1. Calculate estimated win probabilities using advanced metrics
2. Compare those probabilities to the bookmaker's implied probabilities
3. Publish a pick only if the expected value is positive and significant

We use our own models to bet live. This isn't theory — it's our money on the line.

Which sports and leagues do you cover?

We cover:
NBA (basketball) — Spreads & Totals
NHL (hockey) — Moneyline & Totals
Soccer — Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, Serie A and more (1X2 & Over/Under 2.5)
Tennis — ATP & WTA (Moneyline & Total Games)

Each sport has dedicated AI models optimized for its specific characteristics.

Why are there no picks on some days?

Because there's no value that day. We never publish a pick just to publish one. No value = no pick.

This is a sign of rigour, not a problem. Tipsters who publish picks every single day are likely trying to justify their subscription fee rather than maximizing your profitability.

Can I verify ProbWin's track record?

Yes. Our results page shows the complete history of every pick:

• Each pick is timestamped before the game starts
• Results are updated automatically after settlement
• You can filter by sport, bet type, or time period

No hidden picks, no "sent privately." Full transparency.

Do you use ChatGPT or a generic AI?

No. Our AI is 100% proprietary: we developed our own machine learning models (gradient boosting), trained exclusively on historical sports data. It's not a wrapper around a third-party service — it's technology built in-house, optimized specifically for sports prediction.

How do I cancel my subscription?

One click in your "My Account" section. No complicated form, no phone call. Cancellation is immediate and you keep access until the end of your current period.

Do you guarantee profits?

No — and be wary of anyone who does. Sports betting always carries risk. Our goal is to identify opportunities with a positive expected edge over the long term, not to guarantee profits on every bet. Our track record speaks for itself.
